During the winter of 2025 Kailey Jane Hawkins and Jonathan "Jonny" Armstrong started jamming together at a local open mic. From then -- learning each other's style and musical backgrounds -- to now, Kailey & Jon have found a groove that works, delighting audiences all around Grey and Bruce. You'll find us on restaurant patios, at markets, at private parties and fundraisers, and this past summer we played a couple of workshops together at the 50th anniversary of the Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival! About Jon
Jonathan Armstrong was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, emerging musically out of the skate/snowboarding-driven alternative music scene of the early ’90s. His bass playing is deeply rooted in the improvisational philosophies of Frank Zappa and Sonny Rollins; embracing music as a living, in-the-moment experience. Major influences include Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Jack Bruce, and Flea.Over the years, Jonathan has explored a wide range of musical styles, with a focus on original music, jazz, and blues. He’s also spent time in rock ’n’ roll cover bands, performing across the bar circuits of Northwestern Ontario. From barns and bars to concert halls and festivals, his performances have also spanned as far as Ucluelet on the West Coast to Montreal in the East and many venues in between.Since relocating to Owen Sound in 2022, Jonathan has continued to expand his musical journey. He currently performs with the Georgian Bay Symphony, the Sweetwater Strings Ensemble as well as with Kailey Jane Hawkins, amongst other interesting musical adventures.
